Fall is a fabulous time to visit the Lake George area. The sun shines but there’s a brisk chill in the air, the summer crowds have thinned, and the foliage begins its breathtaking transformation. There’s no shortage of things to do; from shopping and dining to steamboat rides and local hikes, it’s easy to stay busy no matter how long you’re in town for.
One thing that can be a bit challenging about visiting Lake George in the fall is packing for your trip. With variable weather plus a wide range of activities to do and sights to see, knowing what to bring to ensure you’ll be comfortable and well-prepared can be tough - especially if you’ve never visited the southern Adirondacks in the fall before.
Luckily, here at Lake Crest Inn we have lots of experience with fall in the Lake George area. We’ve put together a guide so you can pack confidently and be ready for any adventure - and any weather - you experience here during your stay!
For a trip to the Lake George region that will include some outdoor adventuring and casual exploring, we’d recommend that you make sure to pack the following (along with the toiletries, accessories, and other must-have items you usually pack for a getaway):
Pro tip: When packing clothing, try to pack a variety of layers rather than one heavy or bulky warm coat. Typically during the fall, you’ll need to add and remove layers throughout the day to stay at a comfortable temperature.
Another pro tip: You may need to pack extras of certain things that could get wet or sweaty during your trip. Rain does happen during the fall, mud is easy to come by on trails, and brisk temperatures can leave you feeling chilled if you’re stuck in clothing that is cold and wet. On the other hand, hiking on warm days can leave you sweaty and wishing you had fresh attire to change into. Best to pack extra and be prepared!
It’s a good idea to have a few extra items on hand to be well prepared for the weather if you’re visiting during the fall season, including:
The weather is variable this time of year, so preparing for warm, cool, and wet weather is key.
