What is there to do in Lake George?

Widely known for its abundance of outdoor recreation, Lake George truly has something for everyone. From its beaches, boating, water sports and sightseeing cruises to hiking, biking, horseback riding and camping to amusements parks, concerts and festivals to shopping, restaurants and historical sites, Lake George offers an endless supply of things to do. And that’s just in the summer! It’s also a great year-round vacation destination, offering spring, fall and winter things to do, as well.

What’s the weather like in Lake George?

Lake George, NY has four distinct seasons, including cold, snowy winters, mild springs, beautiful fall foliage, and warm summers. May through October is the prime time to visit, with July and August offering the warmest temperatures, typically reaching 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. For fewer crowds, milder temperatures for hiking and biking, and beautiful fall foliage, plan to visit in September and October.

Is Lake George Village walkable?

Yes, Lake George is a walkable village with wide sidewalks, crosswalks, and a variety of restaurants, bars, souvenir shops, arcades and more. Most of the attractions are located along Canada Street and down Beach Road, where you’ll find the Fort William Henry and steamboat docks, mini golf, Million Dollar Beach, and the Charles R. Wood Park & Festival Grounds, as well as Battlefield State Park and the entrance to the Warren County Bikeway.

Where can I park in Lake George?

Parking in Lake George is available in paid lots on Beach Road and metered street parking along Canada Street, as well as many of the side streets. Most of the meters have been converted to mobile parking apps, but a few quarter-fed machines still exist. Keep in mind that finding parking in Lake George can be challenging, especially during Lake George events, like Americade Bike Week. There is trolley service for those traveling from outside the Village, and off-street Lake George Village parking for one vehicle is free for guests staying at the Lake Crest Inn.  

Are there places to stay on the water, but also in Lake George Village?

Yes, there are a few select hotels and resorts that are located on the lake within walking distance of Lake George Village. Lake Crest Inn sits directly on Lake George and is conveniently located at the north end of Lake George Village. Walk along Canada Street to the restaurants and bars, and check out the souvenir shops and arcades. Enjoy free concerts and fireworks in Shepard’s Park, or head over to Beach Road for mini golf, steamboat cruises and Million Dollar Beach.

Are the beaches in Lake George free?

All of the public beaches in Lake George are free, but there is a fee for parking at Million Dollar Beach, as well as Rogers Memorial Park Beach and Veteran’s Memorial Park Beach in Bolton Landing. Parking at Usher Park Beach is free, but limited, and Shephard Park Beach does not have a parking lot, so beach-goers must use the metered parking throughout Lake George Village. Guests staying at the Lake Crest Inn also have access to a free, private beach and lakeside pool.

Is Lake George family-friendly?

Lake George is a family-friendly vacation destination, offering tons of outdoor recreation, annual events, and a variety of attractions and activities for kids of all ages. Spend the afternoon at the beach, take a family-friendly hike, go for a ride on the Warren County Bikeway, visit Six Flags Great Escape & Hurricane Harbor water park, try your luck in the arcades, watch an authentic rodeo, challenge each other to a round of mini golf, and so much more.   

What’s the best spot for breakfast in Lake George?

One of the top reasons to stay at the Lake Crest Inn is that the best breakfast in Lake George is just a few steps from your door! Conveniently located on the same property as our Lake George motel, the Lake Crest Breakfast Cafe is open to the public and serves breakfast daily from 7:00 to 11:00 AM in July and August, and on weekends in May, June, September and part of October.
